Little Joanie - She Was Meant to Be. - Sandy W.

How does a tiny defenseless puppy, survive in the wilderness, against all odds? It's because Joanie was born in the Palm of God's Hand. That is our only explanation. This precious little puppy was just meant to be. Back in early August, 2023, the Tunica Humane Society rescued the only surviving newborn puppy of a feral mother dog, that lay dying just a few feet away. She had been bitten by a poisonous snake and it was clear, we were too late to save her. Her body was already swollen and covered in flies. She hadn't been able to care for her newborn babies in several days. The tiny puppies perished, one by one, without their mother's milk. Except for little Joanie. Joanie had superpowers from the very start. She was destined to touch a million hearts with her story of survival. The scene when we arrived at the property was so heartbreaking, Joanie could have gone completely unnoticed. The smell of death was already in the air. Somehow, this tiny puppy found the strength to make a faint whimper. She was still alive. Just a few feet from her dying mother. From the moment Joanie was scooped up by Scott and Tobi Little, it was clear she was going to be a fighter. Her tiny body was already cold and stiff. She responded instantly to the warmth of Tobi's touch. Joanie went on to be fostered by Harlan and Becky Stillions during those first crucial weeks of her development.  They nurtured her with all the love and care shown a newborn infant. For a puppy born in the darkest despair, Joanie's life suddenly became a fairytale. On October 15th, Joanie was officially adopted by Mike and Christie Mays. I chose Joanie's story as our ultimate "Underdog" this month, in connection with the Subaru Loves Pets promotion. We have had many wonderful adoptions this October but Joanie's story of survival goes straight to the heart. God had amazing plans for this little puppy, from the start. Her forever family knows she was Heaven Sent. They say she has changed their lives forever. The Tunica Humane Society is honored to be partnering with Jim Keras Subaru Covington Pike during the Subaru Loves Pets National Promotion. A Company that is founded on Giving Back. A Rescue that is founded on Giving Back. It's a Win-Win for the countless dogs and cats in shelters across the country, all of them deserving of loving homes. Hats off to Subaru for bringing light to their plight during this national promotion.

Giving Dogs a 2nd Chance - Marilyn S.

I had so much fun working closely with our Mutt Strut 5k sponsor, Jim Keras Subaru Covington Pike, this year! The dog rescue I volunteer for, Dogs2ndchance, hosts an annual fundraiser event lovingly named the Mutt Strut 5k. It’s a 5k with a fun and surprising twist…. you can run/walk with your dog! The weather was a perfect fall day as the participants strutted down the course through the beautiful Overton Park. The people were as diverse as the dogs who participated. We had everyone from serious racers and weekend warriors to moms (one jogging with a baby stroller plus her dog!) dads, grandparents, groups of siblings, a wheelchair racer, a school track team……etc. The dogs that participated were German Shepard, Shih Tzu, poodles, doodles, collies, boxers, dachshunds, labs, mutts, mutts, and more mutts. We had well over a hundred participants this year (and that’s not counting the dogs). Thank you, Jim Kerras Subaru Covington Pike for being one of our sponsors this year! We could not continue our work without you and others. Our rescue group is a non profit organization with no government funding, strictly run by volunteers. Our costs are high. We take in stray dogs/puppies, injured, and abandoned dogs. We vet them. We spay, neuter, microchip, vaccinate and care for them until they are adoptable. We give them a 2nd chance.

More Than A Sponsorship - Tulio B.

Jim Keras Subaru Covington Pike and the Memphis Hightailers Bicycle Club have worked together for many years. Through that time we have been able to build and grow their sponsorship into a valuable partnership. Our partnership with Jim Keras Subaru Covington Pike has allowed us to strengthen our mission and further our reach in providing bicycle safety, education, and awareness within our community while providing helmets to those who need them. It’s great to see an auto dealership supporting bicycle safety. Since our partnership began, we have been able to get more people riding by providing Bicycle Essential cards at the dealership. Jim Keras Subaru Covington Pike’s presence at our annual Bluff City Blues Ride shows their commitment to raising awareness of cycling and the outdoors. This is a great partnership and we look forward to many more years to come.

Thank you for helping thousands of Memphis students through your $7,500 sponsorship of the Peer Power Big River Crossing Race. It's a good race with a good run for a great reason. Overton Park Conservancy - Tina S.

On Behalf of Overton Park Conservancy, I'd like to thank you for Jim Keras Subaru's Annual Sponsorship of $50,000.00. Your gift helps us to continue creating a beautiful, safe and welcoming space for our diverse community to gather, dream and play. Overton Park is at the center of recreation, inspiration, and connection. With an increasing number of visitors that topped 1.2 million in 2021, the task of maintaining this busy urban oasis continues to grow every year. Your support enables us to make repairs, maintain trails and respond quickly to maintenance challenges like major storm events. This year will bring important changes to the park. The Overton Park 9 golf course will reopen to the public after a renovation by a world-class design team. The National Ornamental Metal Museum is expected to begin renovating Rust Hall and returning it to a destination for the community to connect with the arts. The Conservancy plans to complete our comprehensive park plan, laying out the future of park features like Rainbow Lake. the East Parkway Playground, and the train System. We are honored every day to be able to care for this historic and treasured public space, and we're humbled by your support. Thank you.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Memphis - Ellen B.

As a teenager, Keishuna not only needs to prepare for graduation she needs to prepare for life beyond high school, and she's not the only one. Even as employers struggle to fill open positions with skilled workers, the unemployment rate for teens and young adults in Memphis is three times higher than the national average. Your investment in the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Memphis puts Keishuna and the 2,100 other teens we serve each year on the path to a great future. We provide opportunities to develop crucial soft skills, gain certifications, explore careers, and learn on the job skills. Your generosity coupled with the programming at BGCM is setting them up for success. I would like to extend my gratitude for your gift of $3,000.00 in support of the 2022 Steak N' Burger Event. Thank you for helping to close the opportunity gap for youth, equipping the next generation with the resources and experiences they need to thrive in school, career, and life. Best regards, Keith Blanchard

TUNICA HUMANE SOCIETY - Jan C.

Penelope was a stray young dog who was found in late August under an abandoned shed in a rural Mississippi town. She had just given birth to a litter of puppies and soon was rescued by the Tunica Humane Society. Because of a "honking" sound that she continued to make, she was taken immediately to a local vet to be examined. After she was seen, a decision was made to have further studies done by the Veterinary Staff at Mississippi State University. It was discovered that her snout was almost entirely crushed, and she is blind in one eye. The injuries were caused by blunt force trauma, but it was not known if this was from being struck by a car, or if she was deliberately struck by someone with a heavy object. The staff at MS State drained her blocked sinus passages and treated Penelope for a severe sinus infection. As Penelope continued to improve, the decision was made to return her to the shelter, but because she had to continue to be cared for and given medication, a lovely couple named Lisa and Pete stepped up to foster Penelope in their home. A few days later, a Tunica Humane Society friend told her friend Angie who lived in New Jersey about Penelope. Her friend told Angie that this was a beautiful dog who needed a forever home. After the adoption application was approved, arrangements were made to transport Penelope to New Jersey but, because of a medical emergency, the transport driver was unable to bring Penelope to New Jersey. Angie then decided to drive 1100 miles from New Jersey to Tunica to pick up Penelope who has been in her new home for about a week. Penelope is an awesome addition to her new family and she has two human sisters who are 9 years old and 6 years old. Penelope takes part in tea parties and in the evening, she probably hears dozens of bedtime stories. She has three cats and some guinea pigs to keep her company too. Her Mom Angie is thinking about getting Penelope certified as a funeral home therapy dog for those who are grieving the loss of deceased loved ones. Penelope was a pet that was adopted during October due to the wonderful exposure created by the Tunica Humane Society’s partner retailer, Jim Keras Subaru, Covington Pike and their promotion of Subaru Loves Pets month. Penelope arrived in New Jersey on Friday, Oct. 22 and this was the same day as Subaru’s “National Make A Dog’s Day”. We believe this date will forever be a significant day in Penelope’s life and her adoptive family. Subaru, you truly made their day! At a time when adoptions are down throughout our community, we believe this promotion significantly impacted our adoption rate so much that we had nineteen adoptions this month. Who would ever anticipate that an injured dog from a small town in Mississippi would ever have such an impact on so many lives? There is a saying "Love lives at the Tunica Humane Society" but we believe that adopters such as Angie and her new pet Penelope show us that love has no boundaries. Thank you, Jim Keras Subaru, Covington Pike and the entire Subaru corporation for remembering the underdogs and cats of this world!

Our auction attracts more than 300 parents and school supporters and would not be possible without the generosity of sponsors like Jim Keras Subaru.
