Subaru's EyeSight Safety Technology Reduces Pedestrian Collisions by 41 Percent

More and more in the modern market, one of the biggest questions that drivers ask about their next car is "what kind of safety technology does it offer?" In the past, that might have meant something as simple as airbags. Today, however, many vehicles employ powerful suites of advanced technology aimed at preventing accidents before they happen.

One of the best options on the market? Subaru's EyeSight safety system.

Utilizing a pair of forward-facing cameras, the EyeSight system watches the road ahead of you to keep an eye out for obstacles and hazards. This can include things like driver error, other cars, and pedestrians. It's one of the most effective systems of its kind.

In fact, a recent study found that vehicles equipped with EyeSight are involved in 41 percent fewer pedestrian-related insurance claims. "The data clearly show that EyeSight is eliminating many crashes, including pedestrian crashes,” said Matt Moore, the senior vice president of the Highway Loss Data Institute.

The EyeSight safety system is offered in all of Subaru's 2018 lineup, excepting the BRZ sports car. It includes active safety technology like adaptive cruise control, lane departure warnings, lane keep assist, and more. Speaking about the HLDI's findings, Subaru of American president and CEO Thomas J. Doll was pleased.

"We are gratified, but not surprised, that HLDI data show Subaru EyeSight can prevent crashes, including with pedestrians," he said. "Safety is paramount to Subaru, and each year we continue to improve and innovate the safety features and technology in our vehicles for our customers. Our safety technology has been a key driver behind our steady sales growth, highlighted by 77 months of consecutive month-over-month increases."
